A loyalty programme for Uppsala.

The short answer

Uppsala is a university city, and that changes one thing concretely for a stamp card: the card should be fillable within a single term, or a large share of the customer base moves away before the reward is reached.

A city where a substantial part of the customer base is here for three or five years, and where the terms show up in the takings, asks a question other cities do not: how long can a card be before it stops meaning anything?

Around Stora torget, Sysslomansgatan and the student nations, trade runs on the academic calendar. August and January are two fresh starts a year, and both are the best moments to sign customers up — someone who has just moved here picks their places in the first few weeks and keeps them afterwards.

Summer and the Christmas break are the other thing that sets Uppsala apart from a pure office city: visits thin out sharply for several weeks. That is an argument against putting a short expiry on cards, so a customer who has been away does not return to a card reset to zero.

Questions people ask

How many stamps suit a university city?

Pick a number that can be completed within one term. For a café with visits several times a week, eight to ten usually works; for sparser visits, fewer.

Can cards have an expiry date?

You decide whether cards expire at all. In a city with long breaks it is often better that they do not.

Does my team need to learn a new system?

No. The customer scans the QR code and a team member approves the stamp — that is the whole action.

Set up your stamp card
